Report: Aston Villa handed transfer boost as Genoa pull out of deal for Nicolai Boilesen

Aston Villa are looking to sign Nicolai Boilesen from Ajax this summer.

Boilesen is on the transfer list at Ajax, and a report in Voetbal International suggests that Aston Villa have been handed a boost in the race to sign the Danish international defender.

Boilesen was wanted by both Villa and Serie A side Genoa, as per TMW, but the latest report claims that only the Birmingham-based club are left in the hunt for him.

Genoa have dropped their interest in Boilesen, as they are preferring a move for Hertha BSC’s Nico Schulz. The Italian club are looking at bringing in a new left-back, and they clearly believe Schulz is better suited to the role than Boilesen.

This means that Villa are the only club in for the Danish defender, and considering the cheap price he is going for, they would be foolish not to sign the 23-year-old.

The TMW report states that he is for sale at just £2.5 million, a fee far below his actual worth in this current financial market. It is surprising to see the Dutch giants trying so hard to sell Boilesen, but Villa could be the beneficiaries.

Villa have already brought in a new left-back this summer in Jordan Amavi, but it is clear they are looking for another option. Boilesen looks the perfect option, and his versatility means he can play anyway across the back-line - as well as in defensive midfield.

With the knowledge that they are the only club in for him, Tim Sherwood should be going all out to bring in the Danish international before the window closes.
