The £7 million signing from Stoke City missed out on the UEFA Super Cup match against Barcelona.
Sevilla put on a marvellous show against Barcelona in the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday night, but eventually lost the thrilling encounter 4-5 after Pedro scored in extra-time.
Despite the obvious disappointment of missing out on silverware, as preparations for the 2015-16 season in La Liga , there's some good news for manager Unai Emery, according to the official Sevilla FC website.
Key £7 million summer signing from Stoke City, Steven N'Zonzi, who didn't travel to Tibilisi due to suffering a nasty stomach illness, has now been passed fit and returned to training on Thursday, along with the rest of his Sevilla team-mates.
After playing a friendly in Greece against AEK Athens, the Sevilla squad headed on to Georgia for the match against Barcelona, with several players complaining they weren't well, due to having eaten poorly prepared food at their hotel.
Sevilla take on AS Roma in the Italian capital on Friday night at 8pm, in what will be their final encounter of pre-season. Despite having been passed fit, N'Zonzi isn't expected to travel, as the club gives him more time to recover fully.
However, medical staff and the coaching team at the club remain fully confident, insisting the 26-year-old midfielder will be available to make his official league debut.
Sevilla open the 2015-16 campaign with an away trip to Malaga at La Rosaleda, on Friday 21st August, which will also be the first official game of the season for La Liga.
