Manchester United media round-up: Schweinsteiger thanks fans following warm welcome

Bastian Schweinsteiger

A round up of news stories this morning related to Manchester United.

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has been quoted by the Daily Star, commenting on his welcome to the club.

United fans have really taken to the German midfielder, as he looks to get his teeth stuck into Premier League life.

He’s already made his debut having come off of the bench against Tottenham last weekend.

“It was amazing really. I was surprised and I have to say 'thank you' to all the supporters,” he said.

The Daily Express has reported that the German star is also getting close to full fitness.

He’s had routine injury problems over the last few years, but the paper claims that he’s nearing a state where he’ll be fully fit in a United shirt.

The news is significant because it means manager Louis van Gaal can rotate him effectively next to Michael Carrick.

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has been quoted by the Daily Express explaining that he feels the club should be challenging for at least one trophy per season.

Smalling has suggested that a good start is the key and United backing up their opening day win against Tottenham with a victory against Aston Villa tomorrow.

“But if we can get off to a good start this year then this club should always aim for at least one trophy per season,” he said.
