George Graham suggets there is a genuine optimism developing at Tottenham

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss George Graham feels there is a belief that Mauricio Pochettino is the right man to take the side forward.

Former Tottenham manager George Graham told talkSPORT that he feels there is genuine optimism around the club that Mauricio Pochettino is the man who can take the club forward.

Spurs didn’t get off to a good start last weekend as they lost at Manchester United, but they controlled large parts of the game and were unlucky not to have scored at least one goal through midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Spurs need to refocus quickly and get back on track against Stoke City this weekend, as they look to get into a good position over the next couple of months, where an assault on the top four is possible.

“I think he’s very, very promising. I’ve heard that he’s very good on the training ground and I think there is some genuine optimism at Tottenham,” he told talkSPORT.

Can Pochettino improve Tottenham this season?

It will be interesting to see what’s different over the course of this season about Tottenham compared to last year.

Pochettino has worked hard to improve his defensive options, with time left in the transfer window for him to improve the attacking numbers in his squad.

There were some promising signs last weekend in terms of the way Tottenham protected the ball as they looked to build pressure over United, but they need to translate that pressure into points.

One of the biggest challenges that Pochettino could face this season is arguably getting the team to believe that they can have a good season, getting back into that elusive top four.
