Former team-mate of Mauricio Pochettino explains why Tottenham boss flogged Vlad Chiriches

Vlad Chiriches

Former Romanian international Florin Raducioiu has made it clear that the Tottenham boss simply did not like the Romanian.

This summer has seen Tottenham Hotspur kicking out plenty of the deadwood at the club. Etienne Capoue, Lewis Holtby, Paulinho and Younes Kaboul all left – with Roberto Soldado set to follow them.

Another name on that list is Vlad Chiriches.

The Romanian was sold to Napoli this summer after a rather disappointing time with Tottenham. Signed for a fee reported by the Daily Mail to have been around £7 million, the Romanian struggled since his arrival from Steaua Bucharest with the pace and concentration of the English game.

Now a former Romanian international and team-mate of Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has had his say on the matter.

Florin Raducioiu, who flopped in North London himself with West Ham, played with Pochettino at Spanish side Espanyol. He says that the Argentine simply did not rate Chiriches.

The former Romanian international striker told Gazeta Sporturilor:

"The manager at Tottenham is a very good friend of mine. Mauricio Pochettino's very good friend to me, but unfortunately he did not like the player.

“He did not like him at all and as such never played him.”

Chiriches is now in a place far more suited to his style of play. His move to Italy could be compared being similar to the one Stefan Savic made from Manchester City to Fiorentina – which proved to be a big hit for the Montenegrin.

Chiriches is too cumbersome for English football and the Italian style should suit him well.
