Melchiot made a light hearted quip, around the topic of Italian side Parma's financial difficulties, suggesting Arsenal could buy a trophy from them.
Melchiot played for Chelsea for five seasons between 1999 and 2004, having to watch on as Arsenal won the Premier League with an unbeaten season.
While his post received plenty of praise from Chelsea fans, Arsenal fans were quick to have a pop back, suggesting that perhaps his jibe should be aimed at the Blues instead.
@MarioMelchiot Isn't 'buying trophies' a Chelsea thing? ;-)— JJ Killed Springy (@JJKilledSpringy) August 13, 2015

@mariomelchiot thats more apt for Chelsea. Also keep a look out when they sell their history.— Nitish Thakur (@13nitish) August 13, 2015
Arsenal have not won the Premier League in a decade, while Chelsea are the reigning champions - but the Gunners do have two back to back FA Cup wins to their credit over the past two seasons.
Perhaps it is both club's rivals Spurs who may be more in need of buying one of Parma's trophies...
