HITC Sport understands Everton are exploring a loan move for former Manchester United defender Alexander Buttner to solve their problematic left-back spot.
Former Manchester United full-back Alexander Buttner has emerged as a target for Everton as they consider bringing in the left-back on loan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Everton are considering bringing in a new left-back as they wait to find out the full extent of Leighton Baines' latest ankle injury.
Baines missed last weekend's Premier League opener against Watford and it is feared he may have undergo surgery on his injury which could sideline him for a number of months.
Youngster Brendan Galloway deputised in Baines’ absence against Watford with Bryan Oviedo still working his back to full fitness after a metatarsal injury picked up in training in April.
Everton sent England Under-21 international Luke Garbutt out on loan to Fulham earlier this summer and the injury to Baines has left them short of options at left-back.
It means Martinez is considering bringing in some cover and Dutchman Buttner is on his list of targets.
Buttner is currently at Dinamo Moscow after joining the club from Manchester United last summer.
Buttner joined United from Vitesse Arnhem in 2012 but made only 13 Premier League appearances in two seasons and was allowed to leave following the arrival of Luke Shaw.
