Celtic slipped to their first dropped points of the season last night, as they played out a 2-2 draw against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership.
It was a surprising result for the Bhoys considering their good start to the season and the fact that Kilmarnock sat bottom of the table before the game, with Celtic at the top and sitting petty in terms of looking to protect their title.
What will probably frustrate manager Ronny Deila the most about the result is the fact that Leeds took the lead twice during the game, with Leigh Griffiths and Nir Bitton putting the side ahead on different occasions.
Unfortunately the team let their concentration slip and Kilmarnock came back into the game and Celtic need to ensure that the next time they have a lead, they are in a position to be able to see it out and protect it effectively.
Griffiths’ goal is particularly significant because he’s making a real fist of maintaining the impressive form he showed in the Scottish Championship last season.
When Nadir Ciftci was signed, Griffiths would have been someone who had started to sweat a little bit over his position in the squad, but he’s showing why he’s the club’s first choice attacking player at the moment.
He’s also done himself no harm at all in terms of making a claim for a starting place in the Celtic side to face Malmo next week in that crucial Champions League qualification game.
Griffiths is very much a confidence and touch sort of player, who always works hard regardless of whether things are going his way and as long as he keeps trying and giving everything in every game, he should be fine in terms of getting opportunities and chances to add more goals to his collection.
Here’s what Celtic fans on Twitter had to say about Griffiths’ performance last night.
Griffiths is a great striker, but brilliant is a striker willing to lay a pass on rather than selfishly keep it in hope of self glory.CFC— Robert Craig (@rabcraig1962) August 12, 2015
Griffiths gave #Celtic a great start tonight with his well-taken strike. But I felt he had one of his poorer games.Decision-making poor.— Brian McNally (@McNallyMirror) August 12, 2015
Get in there, great start Bhoys, brilliant from Commons and well taken by Griffiths— Paul (@pauln1984) August 12, 2015
