The Club Bruges defender is not likely to leave the club until after Champions League meetings with Manchester United.

Celtic are currently facing a battle to keep hold of their star defender Virgil van Dijk. The likes of Southampton and Everton are believed to be actively pursuing his transfer and keeping hold of him is looking to be increasingly difficult.

The club are not likely to sell him until after the Champions League qualifying games with Malmo, at which point it would appear they have his replacement lined up.

It has been reported that Celtic are keen on a move for Brandon Mechele of Club Bruges. Now the 22-year-old’s agent Guy Bonny has told the Daily Record about his interest:

However, the problem is they will not sell until after their fixtures with Manchester United in the Champions League, and an injury may also cause problems:

“I know Celtic’s interest is concrete.

“But I have not yet been officially contacted by the club.

“I wouldn’t have thought Bruges would be inclined to do any business while they have games against Manchester United to come.

“And they have an injury to their defender Bjorn Engles too which may further complicate matters.

“I think we will know more in the next few days.”

Last season Celtic also had Jason Denayer in defence, which added options to the central defensive area. However, he has returned to Manchester City so Celtic are now slightly light in the position.

Mechele is a Belgian Under-21 international who has recently become a feature of the Bruge first-team and is reportedly worth around £3 million.
