Stoke City have added the Swiss international to their ranks but what do Potters fans think of the move?
Stoke City have done some great transfer business this summer, and the arrival of Swiss international Xherdan Shaqiri is surely the best of the bunch.
The 23-year-old winger arrived at the Britannia Stadium on Tuesday for a club-record £12million fee (as reported by the BBC), proving just how much the Potters have changed under the stewardship of Mark Hughes.
The former Wales international has slowly and smartly built a side capable of competing with the best in the Premier League, with Shaqiri joining the likes of Bojan Krkic and Ibrahim Afellay in a squad that could go on to great things this season and beyond.
Shaqiri arrived at Stoke from Italian side Inter Milan, where he played 20 matches last season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in the process.
Prior to that he played for German club Bayern Munich, where despite his talent he was always second fiddle to their more illustrious wide players Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.
Still only 23, Shaqiri now has the chance to develop at club he can call his home, and if he plays to his potential the Premier League will have yet another star on their hands.
Following the news we took to Twitter to see what Stoke fans thought of Shaqiri’s arrival and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Shaqiri to Stoke. Sympton of gross growth of PL, or apparent rise and rise of Stoke under MH, or bit of both? Either way, brilliant signing.— Terry Pierce (@telpierce) August 11, 2015
