Southampton transfer round-up: Oriol Romeu arrival imminent; discussions for Virgil van Dijk underway

A round up of the latest news stories related to Southampton on Wednesday evening.

According to Sky Sources, Southampton are on the verge of signing Oriol Romeu on a permanent deal from Chelsea.

It is understood the defensive midfielder, who spent last term on loan at Stuttgart where he played 27 times and was an important part of the first team, has agreed personal terms and completed a medical on Wednesday.

Ronald Koeman's side, who have been looking for another midfield player despite signing Jordy Clasie to replace the departed Morgan Schneiderlin, are expected to announce the 23-year-old's signing later today.

Meanwhile, the latest news from BBC Sport suggests that the south coast club have been in discussions with Celtic regarding the potential signing of defender Virgil van Dijk.

Reports infer that the Saints are yet to make an offer for the 24-year-old Dutchman, with the Scottish Premiership outfit's manager, Ronny Deila, insisting there has been no bid from St Mary's.

It is believed that Van Dijk's current club wish to retain his services - at least until they know the outcome of their upcoming Champions League play-off clash with Swedish champions Malmo.

However, with the Daily Record stating the player's strong desire to move to the English Premier League, Southampton will be confident in securing his signature before the end of the summer window.
