Report: Aston Villa lodge £7 million bid for long-term Liverpool target Keita Balde Diao

The Villans are believed to be the nearest to Lazio's price-tag for the Spanish youngster.

This summer Aston Villa lost their star striker Christian Benteke to Liverpool. With that in mind Villa fans would undoubtedly love to get one over the Anfield club in the transfer market. It now looks like they might as they move into pole position to sign Liverpool target Keita Balde Diao from Lazio.

Football Italia are reporting that Villa, who are still in the market for a striker after a deal for Emmanuel Adebayor collapsed, have already made a bid for the player and are close to meeting the asking price for the prodigious talent.

They claim Villa have made an offer of €10-€11 million (around £7million) for the player. Lazio are however hopeful they can receive more for the player, with €15 million (£10.7m) believed to be their price-tag.

It comes just days after Diao was transfer listed by Lazio after a row with club president Claudio Lotito.

It is not the first time he has courted controversy. He was kicked out of the Barcelona academy for a year after playing a practical joke when younger that backfired.

However, the young star is full of talent and Liverpool have been in the hunt previously.

In September 2014 his agent, as reported by Sky Sports, claimed that Liverpool had made a £16 million bid for the player that had been rejected by the Biancocelesti.

Now it seems Villa are moving in for the kill and might get one over on Liverpool yet.
