Kevin Campbell backs Arsenal to react positively to freak result

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell described his old team's defeat to West Ham last weekend as a 'freak' result.

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has brushed off what he described as a ‘freak’ result for the Gunners last weekend, as he spoke to talkSPORT.

Campbell feels Arsenal will respond positively to defeat at the hands of West Ham in their opening game of the Premier League season, backing the Gunners to impress over the course of a long season.

There were a few things that Arsenal just didn’t do well enough during the game according to their former striker.

“It was a big shock but these things happen, the freak results do happen and sometimes you can have the worst pre-season and win your first game – There’s a long way to go and I’m sure Arsenal will come good – They just didn’t play well enough,” he told talkSPORT.

Take nothing away from Hammers

Campbell described the result as a ‘freak’ one but it’s difficult to knock how well West Ham played during the game.

They were forced to take a lot of pressure at times and they did so effectively, soaking up Arsenal attacks and taking two chances at the other end.

They also looked sharp due to their intense pre-season schedule and the fact that they had already played several competitive games.

The way forward for Arsenal

Arsenal need to quickly shake off the result and find a way to go into their match against Crystal Place this weekend with some confidence.

The Gunners have talent all over their team but the defence needs to remain firm, keep a clean sheet and take some of the pressure out of the match for the attackers.
