Derby County fans got their first look at Isak Ssewankambo in competitive action last night as he started against Portsmouth.
He was on the losing side as the Rams lost to League Two side Portsmouth in front of a crowd of 11,000 at Fratton Park.
When he was substituted in the 70th minute Derby were 1-0 down, and went onto lose the game 2-1.
It was not a night in which any Derby player covered themselves in glory, and a galling one for highly rated manager Paul Clement, as his side lost despite having 60 per cent of possession.
Ssewankambo played at right-back and was one of the few positives on a desperately disappointing evening..
He was a summer signing from Dutch side NAC Breda, who he had joined one year earlier from Premier League side Chelsea.
At just 19-years-old he is very much a project, and one for the future, but he did not do himself an injustice even if the result is not one he will look back on with any fondness, and can expect more opportunities as the season continues.
Here is a look at how Derby fans reacted to his display...
This Ssewankambo looks decent— abi (@abimeatsix_) August 12, 2015
Liking Ssewankambo so far had a shaky start but grew into the game!— Jaques Barker (@Barker_Jack13) August 12, 2015
Positives: Ssewankambo looks promising and Shackell has been immense as per.— Jack Thompson (@JackT94) August 12, 2015
Don't understand why Dawkins and Ssewankambo were taken off when you had Weimann and Baird on the pitch contributing nothing— Harry Cooke (@Cooke_96) August 12, 2015
Ssewankambo looked decent at right back. Tonight's team suggests Christie and Shotton should be worried about their future I think #dcfc— StuartF (@sjforsyth) August 12, 2015
Think Clement will know his strongest side now though, Ssewankambo not ready yet, although got better as game went on.— Ash Lucas (@ash_derby) August 12, 2015
Only positive tonight was that ssewankambo looks a baller and has to start Saturday.— Brett Sims (@brettsims10) August 12, 2015
Ssewankambo best player for us tonight. Not difficult though.— Scott Gration (@srgDCFC) August 12, 2015
