Queens Park Rangers marched into the second round of the Capital One Cup with a convincing 3-0 win over Yeovil Town on Tuesday evening.
First half goals from Sebastian Polter and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas gave the London outfit a commanding lead at the break, before Nedum Onuoha capped his 100th appearance for the club with a close-range strike to clinch a comfortable victory.
However, it was the performance of Rangers academy product Michael Doughty, who has taken in several loan spells away from the club since signing a senior deal at Loftus Road in 2010, that attracted the most attention.
The 22-year-old received a rare start for the Hoops in yesterday evening's clash and found himself at forefront of the supporter's praise following the club's victory.
Doughty's performance was also highlighted by manager Chris Ramsey for individual praise.
“I thought Michael was excellent,” the R's chief told the club's official website.
“I’m really pleased for him, because he’s worked really hard for that performance tonight.
“I thought he was man of the match tonight – he played really well.”
Having made just two league appearances for the Loftus Road outfit previously, Doughty will be hoping Tuesday's performance has boosted his chances of selection ahead of the club's Championship clash against Cardiff City on Saturday.
After an impressive Capital One Cup display, here is how Twitter reacted to the academy product's contribution:
