Aston Villa determined to enjoy a productive campaign under Tim Sherwood, says Ciaran Clark

The Villa defender says the squad are determined to show just how good they are this season.

Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark has told the club’s official website that he and rest of the squad are determined to enjoy a productive campaign in 2015/16.

The Villans were majorly disappointing last season as they narrowly avoided relegation out of the Premier League.

Things turned around when Tim Sherwood arrived as Paul Lambert’s replacement, though, as he steered them away from the drop zone and through to the FA Cup final - where they lost to Arsenal.

And Clark says a solid pre-season has left them confident of taking in a good season this time around.

"It's been a good pre-season,” he told

“The gaffer has worked us hard. He's got his ideas across and we all feel fit and energised to go out there and have a good campaign for the club. We obviously followed up our pre-season with a hard fought victory at Bournemouth and we want to continue that winning feeling.”

Squad determined to impress

Sherwood has had a difficult summer so far as he lost three of his key players from last season - with Ron Vlaar, Fabian Delph and Christian Benteke all having departed the club.

He has offset that disappointment, though, by being active in the transfer market, bringing in a whole host of new faces to improve the squad and make it his own.

They now face Manchester United at Villa Park on Friday, and Clark says there is real focus and drive in the squad, with all of the players determined to show that they can hold their own among English football's elite this season.

"It won't be easy but there's a real focus and drive in the squad, with some talented new faces,” he added.

"We want to really go out and impress. United are one of the favourites for the title but we're determined to go out there and show everyone that we're a good side that can do well this season.”
