West Ham United media round-up: Update on the future of Joey Barton

A selection of the latest news concerning West Ham United.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Joey Barton is set to train with West Ham’s squad this week before a decision is made as to whether he will be offered a contract.

Barton was linked with the club yesterday, and has held talks with Slaven Bilic concerning a move to the Boleyn Ground. He is currently a free agent, and the Hammers want to ensure that he is up to the needed level before agreeing to sign him.

Another midfielder who could be heading to East London is Lucas Leiva, currently of Liverpool.

The Brazilian holding player is something of an outcast at Anfield, and he is expected to leave Mersyside this summer.

West Ham are stated by ESPN as being a team who could be ready to move for him, should a deal for Alex Song not be completed before the end of the transfer window.

One player who does not look like he will be heading to the Boleyn Ground this summer is Alen Halilovic. Despite being wanted by Bilic for a number of weeks, and with Barcelona willing to send him on loan for the season, it appears he will not be on his way to the Premier League.

A report in Adendblatt claims he is heading to Hamburg in the Bundesliga for a season-long loan deal.
