Tottenham and Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Konoplyanka's UEFA Super Cup debut

Yevhen Konoplyanka scored for Sevilla against Barcelona.

Ukrainian superstar Yevhen Konoplyanka took little time making an impact at new side Sevilla.

The winger signed on a free transfer this summer for the back-to-back Europa League winners, and featured as a substitute in the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday night.

He came on in the 68th minute for former Arsenal forward Jose Antonio Reyes, and made an impact with 10 minutes to go, turning in a cross to hit an equaliser.

It capped a stunning turnaround; Barcelona had been 4-1 up but a second half fightback saw Sevilla level the score at 4-4 and take the tie to extra time.

His impact did not go unnoticed among fans of two Premier League teams who were closely linked with his signature; Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

Eurosport reported in late June that Spurs had agreed a deal to sign the winger, who was claimed to be flying in for a medical.

The deal did not come off and he chose to sign with Sevilla instead, who beat his Dnipro side in the Europa League Final in May.

Spurs are yet to sign a winger as an alternative this summer, and missing out on Konoplyanka on a free may be a decision they come to regret.

Liverpool had been linked with him even earlier, with managing director Ian Ayre flying to Ukraine to attempt to close a deal in January 2014, as reported the Liverpool Echo. The Reds missed out, and will never know if his addition would have tipped a narrow title race in their favour that season.

Supporters of both clubs noted his impact against Barcelona, lamenting a missed opportunity. Here is a look at the reaction on Twitter to his display...
