Report: Newcastle want Raphael Guerreiro, Lorient president sets asking price

Newcastle United are looking to sign Lorient star Raphael Guerreiro.

Guerreiro is considered one of the best prospects in European football, and a report in L’Equipe claims that Newcastle want to sign him, and how much they will have to pay.

The report states that Lorient president Loic Fery has valued the left-back at roughly £8.8 million, and he explained his reasoning in the same article.

He said: “I don’t need to explain why we want €12.5m when Kurzawa and Digne are valued today at €25m. No one [is] untransferable, but at a fair price.”

The Magpies are looking to bring in a new left back this summer, and Guerreiro has been targeted as their priority signing. However, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid are both named in the report as also wanting to sign the Portuguese defender, and the Magpies will face a tough challenge to sign him.

Who is Raphael Guerreiro?

Guerreiro is a 21-year-old left-back, who currently plays for Lorient in France. He has spent his entire career in the country after being born there, and progressed through the famous Clairefontaine academy to sign with Caen.

He spent just one season with the club before moving to Lorient in the summer of 2013, where he has since become a key player. Despite being born in France, he is a full Portuguese international with one goal in two games.

Primarily a left-back, he can play anywhere along the left wing, and is known for being very attacking. He netted seven goals in 34 Ligue 1 games last term, an incredibly high tally for a defender, and the youngster is rightly considered a star of the future.

For the asking price Lorient want for Guerreiro, Newcastle should really be going all out to sign him before the window closes.
