Report: Middlesbrough interested in AC Milan's Michael Agazzi

Middlesbrough are reportedly on the lookout for extra goalkeeper competition.

According to a report in Italian publication TMW, Middlesbrough are interested in with AC Milan's Michael Agazzi as their goalkeeper search continues.

Aitor Karanka’s men boasted the best defensive record in the Championship last season, with 36-year-old custodian Dimitrios Konstantopoulos keeping a record 20 clean sheets.

Beyond the Greek number one, Boro are light in regards to alternatives as former Real Madrid B star Tomas – the club’s number two - lacks experience having featured sparsely throughout his career.

As per a report in Tallksport, Napoli man Mariano Andujar was the subject of an accepted Boro bid this summer, but the Argentine turned down a move to Teesside in order to remain in Serie A.

As such, Boro’s search continues and fresh reports from Italy state Milan’s out of favour shot-stopper Agazzi is the club’s alternate target though they face competition for his signature from Malaga.

Who is Michael Agazzi?

Agazzi, 31, boasts far more experience than Boro number two Tomas, having represented a number of clubs and had a four-year stint as Cagliari’s number one in Italy’s top-flight.

He moved to Milan only 12 months ago but failed to make a single Serie A appearance, instead providing cover for Christian Abbiati and Diego Lopez despite being handed the number one shirt.

Agazzi stands at 6ft 2inch and has good positional sense and solid reflexes, attributes which have helped become a recognised shot-stopper in Italy’s top flight for the past number of years.
