Milos Veljkovic omitted from Tottenham U21 side after Leeds loan speculation

Does a recent team selection from Tottenham Hotspur's under-21s mean anything for the short-term future of an alleged Leeds United target?

According to a recent report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United want to sign Tottenham Hotspur youngster Milos Veljkovic on loan this season.

The report went on to suggest that while there had been talks between the two sides the move was currently on hold as Leeds could not give guarantees regarding just how much game-time the Serbian would get at Elland Road.

But for those Leeds fans hoping a deal can still be struck, the recent team selection for Tottenham’s under-21s will make for interesting reading.

Veljkovic has been playing for Tottenham’s young side during pre-season but he was the notable absentee when the team was announced for their opening under-21 league game of the season against Everton on Monday.

While the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Nathan Oduwa and Alex Pritchard all started, the alleged Leeds target was nowhere to be seen, and one wonders if Tottenham are holding him back in case a deal can still be struck in the coming days.

The 19-year-old is equally adept at centre-back or as a holding midfielder and that versatility means he would be a perfect short-term addition to Leeds’ squad.

There has been no news from Tottenham as to why Veljkovic was omitted from the under-21s this week, but if the recent speculation is true Leeds fans may yet see a temporary move completed if both sides can reach a compromise.
