The Mexico international has signed for LA Galaxy and was a special guest for the Dodgers’ game against the Washington Nationals.
Giovani Dos Santos may be one of the biggest and brightest stars to play in Major League Soccer, but he’s far from the finished article when it comes to Major League Baseball.
The Mexico international moved to LA Galaxy last month on a lucrative designated player contract.
Hailed as one of the most significant signings in the history of the US game, the 26-year-old even managed to score on his debut.
With so much good feeling surrounding the arrival of Dos Santos at the club, it was not a massive surprise to see the player pitch up at the LA Dodgers game against the Washington Nationals.
Invited along as a special guest of home team first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, the one-time Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur man was even given the honour of making the first pitch of the team’s homestand.
But when Dos Santos did take to the mound, the results were underwhelming to say the least, with his pitch bouncing before it reached the plate.
Is this a sign of things to come for the Mexican, who has endured an up and down career, or further proof of the gulf between soccer and baseball – you decide.
For now, though, let’s just have a giggle at the midfielder’s throw.
