The West Ham summer addition has admitted that the noise was substantial from the travelling support on Saturday.
New West Ham United attacker Dimitri Payet’s latest comments will endear him to the club’s fans, with the France international stating that it was like the Hammers were playing at home against Arsenal at the weekend, as per L’Equipe.
The former Marseille playmaker was an essential part of Slaven Bilic men’s shock 2-0 victory over the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium, giving him a dream debut and the Upton Park outfit three very welcome points.
There are high hopes around Payet this season, with the versatile forward expected to make West Ham a much more dangerous side in the attacking third.
The Frenchman has expressed delight at his debut performance and lauded the travelling support for the amount of noise they created whenever his side hit the back of the net.
“I was surprised when we scored - it felt like we were playing at home with so much noise,” he told L’Equipe.
“It’s really great to be playing here.”
Payet’s capture was one of a number of audacious summer swoops by the Hammers ahead of a campaign that holds much promise for the club.
Arsenal will be disappointed with defeat on the first day of 2015-16, but the result comes as something of a reality check in the North London club’s ambitions of winning the Premier League title this season.
