A round up of news stories this morning related to Arsenal.
The Gunners fell to a disappointing defeat at the hands of West Ham on the opening day of the season.
The performance exposed a possible need for greater strength in depth in key areas, but Keown has suggested why Wenger has been quiet in terms of talking about transfers.
“The difference is he doesn’t like to shout about it from the rooftops. It’s hardly a vote of confidence in your current players if you start talking up others you’d like to buy,” said Keown.
Former Arsenal boss George Graham told talkSPORT that he feels a lack of leadership contributed towards the club’s defeat to the Hammers.
Graham has suggested that the Gunners didn’t do enough to get onto the front foot, pressing the ball and putting West Ham under pressure.
He feels that someone should have stepped forward to set the example to the rest of his West Ham teammates.
“I was really surprised Arsenal didn’t press the ball and put West Ham under pressure, and maybe that just shows you the lack of leadership at the club,” he said.
The Daily Mirror has reported that claims of Arsenal’s interest in Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema are accurate.
The Frenchman is one of several possible options the Gunners could look to bring to the club before the end of the month.
However, the paper suggests that the club are against paying the full value of Real Madrid’s asking price.
