The Hammers were surprise victors at the Emirates on Sunday, with goals from Cheikhou Kouyate and Zarate giving them a 2-0 win in their first Premier League game.
It was a highly accomplished performance from Slaven Bilic’s side as they limited their hosts to half chances at best courtesy of a solid defensive display and clever counter attacking football throughout.
And Zarate says the win wasn’t easy but their hard work was key to the victory.
“We are so happy, everyone, the Chairmen, the staff, the players, the people, the fans!” he told whufc.com.
“I think my work was more important than my goal. We worked so hard, we ran and we kept the ball when we had to and we scored, and if you don’t score you don’t win the match. They played very well, but we worked so much.”
A fantastic start for Payet
On star performer was Dimitri Payet, who made an impressive start to his Premier League career.
Bilic has been given the remit of bringing more attractive football to the club, Payet was brought in to do just that, with him having created more chances than any other player in the top five leagues in Europe last season.
He was back assisting against Arsenal as he set up Kouyate’s opener, and Zarate says he made a fantastic start to his West Ham career.
“I think he did a fantastic match,” he added.
“He kept the ball and he dribbled many times, but it was good for the team to take a break. He is an important player and we have to help him and work all together. If we work, we can make results like this."
