Manchester United are planning to sign Lucas Biglia, report The Sun.
The paper claim the Red Devils are plotting a £17.5 million transfer and hope to complete a deal within the next week.
The reason for that would be next week's Champions League qualifiers, with Biglia expected to feature for Lazio, and if he does play for them against Bayer Leverkusen they he would be ineligible for United in the competition, and far less attractive a signing as a result.
The Sun claim United believe Lazio will sell, and also hope to clinch the signing of Pedro from Barcelona.
Does Biglia fit?
Biglia featured at the World Cup last summer for Argentina, alongside new signing Sergio Romero, and departed star Angel di Maria.
He has pedigree, impressing in Serie A since signing for Lazio in 2013, who he had joined from Belgian side Anderlecht.
His position is however one where United are strong. Biglia is a central midfielder, effective in defensive midfield.
United have already bought Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger this summer to strengthen their midfield, and while you can never have too many good players, there are still more glaring areas of need in United's squad to be addressed.
This would particularly mean central defence, although one idea to accommodate Biglia could see Michael Carrick shifted to play at the back rather than in his customary midfield role.
