Report: Aston Villa to explore possibility of James Wilson loan deal, no interest in Aaron Lennon

Aston Villa

Aston Villa want to sign the Manchester United youngster, but they are not interested in Tottenham man Lennon.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa will explore the possibility of signing James Wilson on loan from Manchester United later this month, as Tim Sherwood continues the search for a new striker.

Wilson is currently back-up striker at Old Trafford due to the sale of Robin van Persie, although he surprisingly left out of the matchday squad for the opening day victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Javier Hernandez was named as substitute striker, but as he is expected to leave Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window, Wilson should take his place as Wayne Rooney’s back-up.

The Red Devils are looking to bring in another striker this summer, and the report states that Villa will look at pursuing a loan deal for Wilson later in the transfer window if United can sign another forward.

Whilst that could be one player coming into Villa Park in the coming weeks, the report also states that one supposed transfer target is not wanted by Tim Sherwood.

The Daily Mail reported last week that Aaron Lennon was in talks concerning a move to the Birmingham-based club, having been outcast from Tottenham Hotspur by Mauricio Pochettino.

However, the Birmingham Mail report claims that Sherwood is not keen on the winger, and would prefer to complete a deal for Andros Townsend instead.
