Lampard and Pirlo subject of rival fan jibe with imaginative banner in US

The former Premier League and Serie A greats were singled out for a unique kind of abuse by New York Red Bulls fans.

Frank Lampard came in for plenty of stick during the so-called New York derby this weekend, with Red Bulls supporters unveiled a rather imaginative banner featuring the Chelsea legend.

The 37-year-old moved to New York City this summer, having spent last season with Manchester City.

Lining up alongside fellow big-name recruit Andrea Pirlo, the newly-established MLS franchise has been tipped for big things.

However even the presence of the Champions League winning pair could do little to prevent City losing 2-0 to New York Red Bulls over the weekend.

In amongst the goalscorers was a former Manchester City youth prospect in Bradley Wright-Phillips.

But despite an eventful game, the undoubted highlight came when Lampard and Pirlo were lampooned in an impressively large banner.

Depicting the pair as old men with walking sticks, the banner may not be on the level of the kind of Premier League “banter” we are used to seeing on English shores, but it was innovative enough.

New York City supporters, we await your response!
