Arsenal's hopes of a Premier League crown have been well reported recently. Tipped by many to shine this season after the acquisition of Petr Cech, it was understandable.
The Chelsea veteran was a brilliant signing and one The Gunners needed to make. Neither David Ospina or Wojciech Szczesny shined at The Emirates and a solid, experienced, stopper was needed to give Arsenal the base to perform.
Yesterday, Cech looked anything but that.
The Czech Republic legend struggled to perform throughout and was at fault for both goals. He came rushing off his line for Cheikhou Kouyate's opener, getting nowhere near the ball. He was then beaten at his near-post by Mauro Zarate for the second, from distance.
His performance was certainly not up to his standards and it saw BBC presenter and former Tottenham Hotspur hero make a joke on Twitter at his and Arsenal's expense.
He Tweeted this, as reported by The Mirror, before later deleting the post:
"Think Arsene Wenger might need to sign a keeper before the window shuts."
Of course, Arsenal fans can hope that this was just first night jitters from the experienced man. It was his first time playing a competitive game for Arsenal in front of the home crowd and he was clearly not his relaxed self.
Lineker may joke, but Arsenal will not be rushing out to buy another keeper this summer. Instead, they know Cech will surely come good.
