Pre-season preparations came to an end in Athens on Saturday, as Sevilla were held to a 1-1 draw with AEK in their final friendly game of the summer, ahead of facing treble winners Barcelona on Tuesday night in the UEFA Super Cup.
The Europa League winners go head to head against the Champions League victors in Tbilisi, Georgia, with Sevilla ready for the difficult test that awaits them, according to midfielder Vicente Iborra.
In comments via the official Sevilla FC website, Iborra explained: "Now comes the important, which is what we have been preparing for. We have things to improve still, but the team is ready."
Iborra acknowledged beating Barça will be challenging, but insisted: "We're playing against a great opponent, but we know we're capable of beating them, because we've demonstrated that on other occasions."
Although there are some injury doubts for Sevilla, ahead of the game on Tuesday night, Iborra pointed out: "We have to overcome the obstacles we know we have, because we have a good enough squad to do that."
As for how Sevilla will try to overcome the qualities of Barcelona, Iborra suggested: "We need to be consistent against Barça, help one another a lot and show solidarity. Our team has already shown we know how to do that."
Regarding his own form, Iborra admitted: "I'm still lacking a little sharpness, but that will come. I have plenty of confidence, so I don't mind wherever I play, I just want to help my team."
"This is a final for us to enjoy. We can bring joy to our fans and that's what we want to do." The 27-year-old central midfielder concluded, hopeful that his team can get a positive result.
