Report: Lennon to snub Villa move; opts for Premier League rivals

Tottenham Hotspur’s Aaron Lennon has been linked with both Aston Villa and Everton.

According to the latest reports in The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur outcast Aaron Lennon is set to snub a move to Aston Villa in order to hold out for a switch to Premier League rivals Everton.

The 28-year-old winger has been deemed surplus to requirements under Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and spent the second half of last season on loan with the Toffees.

With no future at White Hart Lane, he is expected to leave before the January window shuts and is already the subject of a £5 million bid from Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa.

The duo previously worked together in north London and the 46-year-old boss wants to reunite with him at Villa Park, seeing Lennon as an ideal option out wide.

However, as per the report in The Sun, the England international doesn’t fancy the switch to Villa and will snub their advances in order to hold out for a return to Goodison Park.

Should Everton bring in Aaron Lennon on a permanent basis?

Following Everton’s 2-2 draw with Watford, it was apparent that Roberto Martinez’s side lacked pace in wide areas and Lennon is an obvious solution, having had him previously on loan.

Capable of playing on either flank, Lennon helped Everton stretch teams more than anything last season and it was no coincidence that his inclusion coincided with Romelu Lukaku’s best run of form. But will the Toffees be able to negotiate with Daniel Levy?
