Could Tottenham Hotspur be closing in on an exciting young forward?
Tottenham Hotspur fans may not usually pay much attention to Lyon team announcements, but this weekend may be different after the French club revealed that Clinton N’Jie would not be part of the squad to face Lorient in their opening Ligue 1 game of the season.
According to a recent report from the London Evening Standard Tottenham are currently in talks with Lyon over the potential transfer of the 21-year-old, and N’Jie’s omission from their latest squad will only fuel the speculation that a move could be imminent.
The Cameroon international scored seven goals and provided eight assists in 37 league games last season and while he is not the prolific superstar Tottenham fans may be crying out for he has plenty of potential.
Tottenham need to strengthen their forward line with Harry Kane their only current reliable front-man, with both Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado struggling last season.
N’Jie also has pace in abundance and his ability to play anywhere across a front three is surely a factor in Tottenham’s alleged pursuit.
It remains to be seen if a deal can be done, but following the news – announced on Lyon’s official Twitter account – that N’Jie would not feature this weekend, a move looks that little more likely if a transfer fee can be agreed.
