Newcastle United’s new defender Chancel Mbemba certainly made a statement when he arrived at St James’ Park for the Magpies’ Premier League clash with Southampton this weekend.
While most players looked dapper in their suits the former Anderlecht centre-back went a step further and rocked up in a tuxedo.
The 20-year-old even wore a bowtie and there is little chance of his first day on duty for his new club ever being forgotten now.
Mbemba became Newcastle’s third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Georginio Wijnaldum and Aleksandar Mitrovic, and the Congo international clearly has style off the pitch as well as on it.
With a couple more smart additions before the transfer window closes Newcastle could be set for a very good season under new manager Steve McClaren, and Mbemba is likely to play a significant role having made his competitive debut alongside Fabricio Coloccini on Sunday.
