According to the Mirror, as reported by HITC, Derby tabled a £5 million bid for Antonio as they look to put their finishing touches to their squad ahead of what should be a very promising season for the Rams.
Nevertheless, the response given by the Forest chairman on Twitter shows that it is a transfer battle they are unlikely to win.
Should Derby look to sign Antonio this summer?
Although Antonio has proven himself a top Championship player at Forest, it would be a gamble for the Rams to spend £5 million on a winger that has only had one notable season at Championship level.
Derby already have the likes of Johnny Russell, Tom Ince and Andreas Weimann who can play in wide attacking positions, so it doesn't seem to be a position Clement is struggling from talent to pick from.
The response from Al-Hasawi, however, should all but kill the rumours that Derby are interested in Antonio as it seems almost impossible that the transfer would happen under his ownership at the club.
Depending on the seriousness of Will Hughes' injury, Clement should look to add another central midfielder to his side if he is to make another big money signing this summer as it is really the only position the Rams look a little light in.
Another winger could potentially have little impact on the quality in the side as it would only result in another big name being pushed out.
