The Tottenham Hotspur striker does not look like heading to Villa Park. So, should Villa target another striker?
It is looking increasingly likely that Aston Vila’s well-known pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor.
Tim Sherwood knows the player from his time at Spurs and is clearly keen on bringing in another striker – as can be told by the absence of a number 10 on the Villa squad list.
But if Adebayor is not the man for the job, than who is?
Here are five alternatives to the controversial striker:
Charlie Austin – QPR
Plenty of teams are being linked with the striker this summer but Villa are not really one of them.
Why? Who knows?
He would be an excellent replacement for Christian Benteke and Sherwood knows most of the QPR staff from his time at White Hart Lane.
Lacina Traore – AS Monaco
The giant Ivorian had a disastrous spell on loan at Everton in 2014 and has struggled ever since.
Now he does not look like a regular in the Monaco side and Sherwood has raided Ligue 1 already this season.
His injury record however might put Villa off.
Diego Rolan – Bordeaux
Staying in France and the Colombian, who has actually been linked with Villa, would be a great signing.
A talented player who can also play wide, he would offer much more than Adebayor.
Ricky van Wolfswinkel – Norwich City
Not as a first-team option of course but the Dutchman needs to pick up his game soon.
He is struggling badly to find his previous form from Holland and Portugal and might be worth a punt by Sherwood.
Libor Kozak – Aston Villa
The Czech international is finally fully fit after his injury troubles and it is surely about time he got a chance to shine in the Villa first-team.
No point bringing in someone else, when the former Lazio man is waiting for his shot.
