Everton began their new Premier League season with a 2-2 draw against newly promoted Watford at Goodison Park on Saturday.
Everton twice came from behind, scoring through Ross Barkley and Arouna Kone to ensure the Hornets did not snatch a surprise away win, but the real positive for Toffees boss Roberto Martinez was the performance of young defender Brendan Galloway.
More commonly known as a centre-back, the 19-year-old filled in at left-back for the injured Leighton Baines and he did not look out of place.
Instead he excelled in what was only his third senior appearance for the club and his performance suggested he could be the player to replace Baines longer term while the England international recovers from his latest injury setback.
Galloway has played 19 times for Everton’s under-21s and he previously played for MK Dons, but it seems he is now ready for the step up.
Following the draw we took to Twitter to see what Everton fans thought of Galloway’s performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
@JohnnyHBauer Cleverley & Stones as usual. Galloway good but he's a CB by trade so he's not going to be whipping in crosses from touchline— Mark Pendleton (@sunscreemer) August 8, 2015
Galloway good, good enough that I'm not too worried if Baines is out for the reported 12 weeks— Dan Millington (@millingtonnn) August 8, 2015
Galloway has been impressive. One or two of the older players put to shame by his desire and willingness to use the ball. #EFCvWAT— Saint Domingo (@Saint_Domingo) August 8, 2015
Galloway looking good early. Great effort by the youngster #EVEWAT— Walter Quintanilla (@wsquint) August 8, 2015
