Aston Villa players react after Bournemouth win, Jordan Amavi celebrates debut victory

Trinity Road Stand - Aston Villa

Aston Villa started their season with a 1-0 win away at Bournemouth.

Aston Villa put a turbulent summer behind them to win on the opening day of the Premier League season, defeating Bournemouth 1-0.

Manager Tim Sherwood saw first team players Ron Vlaar, Tom Cleverley, Fabian Delph and Christian Benteke all leave the club this summer, and a raft of new signings have arrived at Villa Park to replace them.

One of those new signings gave Sherwood an opening day win on the South Coast, as striker Rudy Gestede - signed from Blackburn to fill the void left by Benteke's move to Liverpool - powered a header home in the second half to beat newly-promoted Bournemouth.

It was a promising showing from Villa, who withstood some early Bournemouth pressure to grind out a hard-fought victory at the Vitality Stadium, and Sherwood will be hopeful that his side can build on that in the coming weeks and months.

After the game, a number of Villa players took to Twitter to celebrate, including Jores Okore, Gary Gardner and Carlos Sanchez, whilst new signing Jordan Amavi also commented on winning on his debut Premier League display for Villa.
