Indeed, France midfielder Cabaye was the subject of praise from Kinnear during a radio interview, only for the former Newcastle man to refer to him as Yohan Kebab.
Kinnear never apologised for the gaffe, the 29-year-old has revealed, although the playmaker says he only ever found the experience entertaining rather than infuriating.
The Crystal Palace midfielder told the Mail: "I only ever saw him a few months later when I left for Paris Saint-Germain. That was the only time. He did not apologise but that was okay. I was not mad. It was funny for me."
As for the coming Premier League season, Cabaye will no doubt be fully focused on Crystal Palace's trip to Norwich City on Saturday afternoon, while Newcastle host Southampton at St James' Park on Sunday.
The first chance for a Cabaye - Magpies reunion in the top flight comes on Saturday November 28th, when Steve McClaren's men will travel to Selhurst Park. The Frenchman could then be returning to Newcastle's iconic home ground months later on Saturday April 30th.
One thing's for sure, though, Kinnear probably won't be at either of those games...
