Watford started their Premier League season with a fantastic 2-2 draw at Goodison Park today. Tipped by many for relegation The Hornets looked comfortable at this level against a team hotly tipped to battle for Europe in Everton.
Even with a new manager and a whole heap of new players in the starting line-up the Watford team appear to have gelled well and there was a real understanding and camaraderie amongst the players.
The likes of Jurado, Valon Behrami, Allan Nyom and Etienne Capooue all put in good performances – as did Austrian defender Sebastian Prodl.
The giant defender was snapped up on a free transfer from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen this summer, in something of a bargain arrival.
In the first half in particular he looked superb. He dealt with the physical presence of Romelu Lukaku easily and in the air was superb throughout.
It will be interesting to see when he comes up a different type of team. Everton play in front of the opposition, rarely getting in behind at the moment.
That may have helped Prodl considering his style of play.
But already the Austrian appears to be a popular figure among the Watford fans…
