Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 Bristol City - Lees and McGugan secure impressive victory

Sheffield Wednesday - The Owls

Sheffield Wednesday started their season with a 2-0 win over Bristol City.

Sheffield Wednesday kicked off their Championship campaign with an impressive 2-0 win over newly-promoted Bristol City at Hillsborough.

Wednesday have brought in a host of new faces this summer, including manager Carlos Carvalhal as well as new signings Jack Hunt, Alex Lopez and Marco Matias, all of whom started today's game.

Facing a team who were so dominant in League One last season as a tricky task for Wednesday, but they passed it with flying colours with a 2-0 win.

Centre back Tom Lees opened the scoring in the second half, heading home a corner on the hour mark to put Wednesday in front.

Just ten minutes later, Lewis McGugan put Wednesday 2-0 up and send Steve Cotterill's Bristol City back to the West County empty-handed.

It was the perfect start for Wednesday, whose ambitious new era is now up and running under Thai owner Dejphon Chansiri, and their victory will give fans hope of sustained success this season.

For Bristol City, they may have made a losing start to life back in the Championship, but they have a strong side and should enjoy a solid campaign under Cotterill.
