An encouraging Tottenham Hotspur display did have its negatives at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Generally, Tottenham's display was an encouraging one during their 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. There were the same old flaws but this was not a terrible showing.
Three players disappointed, however, and one of them was one of the north London side's better performers last season: Nabil Bentaleb.
Indeed, the young midfielder made mistakes that were punished against Manchester United and his youthful energy looks as though it is counteracted by naivety and inexperience on the big occasions. Tottenham fans will want more from the 20-year-old - especially as they are short of depth in midfield.
Considering the recent uncertainty about Mousa Dembele's role in the Spurs squad, he can be forgiven for the odd shaky display. But the Belgian didn't really turn up after being auditioned in a different position at Old Trafford and those kind of performances could prove crucial at this stage in his White Hart Lane career - in a bad way.
Dembele will need to shape up soon, as there are a multitude of youngsters within Tottenham's squad ready to snatch his starting place off him.
With a lack of service for large periods at Manchester United, winger Nacer Chadli can be excused for a lack of activity by some.
But, after his superb performance against AC Milan earlier this week, Chadli came nowhere near reaching those dominant heights in this Premier League clash - when things actually mattered.
Was he tired after playing so recently and should Mauricio Pochettino have rested him during that friendly? Either way, the Tottenham winger's quality has been offset by inconsistency once again.
