Noel Whelan reacts on Twitter to Leeds draw, delivers very encouraging verdict

Elland Road East Stand

The former Leeds star reflected on an opening-day draw against Burnley.

Former Leeds man and current commentator Noel Whelan was delighted with Leeds United's Championship opener against the Clarets on Saturday afternoon.

Indeed, the Yorkshire side impressed with a resolute display against Sean Dyche's Burnley, even taking the lead late on as they looked set to take all three points on the first day of the league season.

The visitors hit back but, even as things finished 1-1 at Elland Road, there were plenty of positives for Leeds.

And Whelan said as much on Twitter after the game, commenting on the amazing atmosphere in Yorkshire and a 'very promising' performance from Uwe Rosler's side.

Next up for Leeds is a Capital One Cup clash against Doncaster Rovers on Thursday, before a trip to Reading in the league on Sunday afternoon.

Heading into both, there are already a number of talking points for Rosler after the Burnley draw. Gaetano Berardi impressed at full-back, while Sol Bamba was instrumental in central defence.

Mirco Antenucci's impact off the bench was the biggest incident of note, however, and it will be interesting to see what kind of role the Italian plays at Leeds during the course of the campaign.
