Manchester United transfer news: van Gaal wants more pace after Di Maria exit; £25m Oblak bid rejected

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United kick off the new Premier League campaign against Tottenham Hotspur later today with doubts remaining over the long-term future of goalkeeper David de Gea.

As reported by the BBC, United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed the Spaniard will not start against Spurs and now the Telegraph is reporting that United have bid £25million for Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak.

The report follows a claim from the print copy of Spanish newspaper Marca that United have set about replacing De Gea with the 22-year-old Slovenian international.

However, it is claimed Atletico have rejected the big-money bid for a player whose current contract runs until the summer of 2020.

In other news, van Gaal has told a press conference that Angel di Maria’s absence means he will be looking for more players with pace and creativity.

United have already made five signings this summer but only Memphis Depay has the traits mentions and in comments published by ESPN the United boss suggested his summer business was not yet complete as he continued his search for speedier, attack-minded stars.
