Liverpool misfit Mario Balotelli shuns Dubai offer, Al Ahli boss confirms

Mario Balotelli Italy

Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli was the subject of a lucrative UAE offer.

Al Ahli boss Cosmin Olaroiu has revealed that Liverpool misfit Mario Balotelli has turned down an offer to join the United Arab Emirates-based club, The National report.

The Italian international striker joined the Reds from AC Milan last summer but following a poor first season on Merseyside, his future at the club remains shrouded in doubt.

Balotelli simply doesn’t fit into the Anfield outfit’s style of play and failed to make any sort of impact last season, scoring just one Premier League goal over the entire campaign.

Al Ahli have offered him a way out, yet according to their coach the controversial striker has shunned a lucrative move to the UAE as he wishes to play elsewhere.

“We thought about Balotelli and we even had a discussion with his agent Mino Raiola. But Balotelli turned down our proposal because he wants to play for another,” Olaroiu was quoted as saying.

What next?

After reportedly turning down a switch to Dubai, Balotelli is seemingly running out of options as a number of clubs are probably unwilling to take him on.

His controversial nature and poor performances over the past 12 months makes a potential Premier League switch highly unlikely, thus a return to Italy has been mooted.

But what about his wages? The striker is seemingly paid well, and unless he’s prepared to take a cut, only a handful of top Serie A clubs could afford him, even if they were willing to risk signing him.

The options are limited, and the Reds’ summer acquisitions of Danny Ings, Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke has ultimately seen him slip further down the striker pecking order at Anfield.
