Former Everton hero Tim Cahill hopes Ross Barkley 'gets the game time he deserves' after Watford wondergoal

The Australian wants to see Barkley star in the Everton shirt this season.

Everton picked up a point today against newly promoted Watford at Goodison Park. In a repeat of their opening day result from last season The Toffees drew 2-2 with a team who had just come up from The Championship.

They were fortunate to do so. Goals from Miguel Layun and Odion Ighalo had looked to have given Watford victory twice, but Arouna Kone scored what proved the vital equaliser.

However, it was Everton’s first equaliser that really got pulses racing.

It came from their star talent Ross Barkley – who will be hoping to finally put in a consistently good season of performances this term.

The England international let fire with an absolute screamer of an effort from 25 yards out after a lay-off from Kone.

It was a goal that had one former Everton player, who played in a similar position to Barkley, Tweeting away.

Australian Tim Cahill also played in that advanced midfield role under the management of David Moyes.

The Soccerroo, who now plays in China, sent this Tweet:

Cahill, who scored 68 goals in 278 games for Everton, is echoing the sentiments of most Evertonians. They know what Barkley is capable of but do not believe he has been meeting those expectations on a regular basis.

Hopefully this term is the year he truly shines.
