Manchester United got their new Premier League campaign off to the best possible start with a 1-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The win came courtesy of an own-goal from Spurs right-back Kyle Walker, after it looked for all the world as though Wayne Rooney would open his account only to have the ball knocked away from him (and into the goal) by his fellow England international.
Of all the new United players on show, Matteo Darmian was the most impressive and the Italian took to Twitter after the match to express his pleasure at his league debut.
“Strong feelings,” the full-back wrote, and he should be very proud after a brilliant showing.
Fellow defender Luke Shaw also had his say, writing, “Great to be back at Old Trafford, get the win and the clean sheet. Thanks for all the support.”
German international Bastian Schweinsteiger came on in the second half and he later had his say, thanking his new fans for their support and explaining the great feeling of tasting victory on his first league appearance for United.
A big thank you to the @ManUtd fans for the warm welcome. I really appreciate your support!— Basti Schweinsteiger (@BSchweinsteiger) August 8, 2015
