Brighton & Hove Albion kicked off their Championship season in impressive fashion as they beat visitors Nottingham Forest 1-0 thanks to a superb Kazenga Lua Lua strike.
It has been an interesting summer at the Amex stadium with as many as nine new players joining the club plus plenty of interest from Fulham in star defender Lewis Dunk, as reported by HITC.
The Albion have so far managed to fend off the interest from their Championship rivals for their centre-back and he was in the starting XI to face Dougie Freedman’s Forest on Friday night.
The expectation levels in Brighton have dropped following their previous successive playoff defeats in the 2012/13 and 2013/14 campaigns but there was an evident positivity about their play last night.
In the first 30 minutes of the match, the Reds struggled to get out of their own half as Brighton penned them in, playing a nice brand of passing football and winning a succession of corners.
The 0-0 score-line arguably flattered the visitors at half-time, yet it wasn’t long into the second period that Lua Lua opened the scoring with a wonderful left-footed effort drive from a tight angle.
The ensuing 35 minutes of the contest was a case of hopeful long balls from Forest and Brighton looking to catch them on the break, doing so a couple of times only to spurn their efforts.
Chris Hughton’s men certainly didn’t look like a team tipped to struggle this season, and the final stages of the game was extremely encouraging as they professionally held out to claim the three points.
The supporters have every right to feel optimistic about the season ahead, with a number taking to social media site Twitter in order to comment on their victory.

Decent start, pretty similar to the Sevilla game we looked solid. Add another addition (or 2) + Zamora and have decent season #bhafc— Ken Major (@KenMajor83) August 7, 2015
Solid all round performance by #BHAFC, particularly pleasing was the willingness of midfield to shoot at goal and make the keeper work— Steve Hill (@smkh777) August 7, 2015
Best things about tonight's game was, that unlike last season, we took shots at goal and got the ball in the box... A lot!!! Positive #BHAFC— Sussex Brades (@SussaxonBrady) August 7, 2015

This team isn’t the finished article. But we started with our best 11 and it was the sort of game we would have lost last season #bhafc— Paul Loman (@donlom) August 7, 2015
