Video: Manchester United goalie Sergio Romero makes great save in training, as he prepares to replace David De Gea

The Argentine goalkeeper arrived on a free transfer from Sampdoria this summer.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal confirmed yesterday that David De Gea would not be playing in the Premier League opener with Tottenham Hotspur today.

The Spanish stopper is being heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer, as a replacement for Iker Casillas – who joined Porto this season.

De Gea is believed to be keen on a move to his hometown and United are seemingly content to sell him for the right price.

To offset his potential departure Manchester United made a move for Argentine international stopper Sergio Romero recently.

The goalie arrived on a free transfer after his contract at Italian side Sampdoria came to an end.

Yesterday United shared this video on their Twitter feed, highlighting just what Romero can do for the club.

It was certainly a move from United which was designed to instil confidence in the United fans.

Romero is a talented stopper and showed that at the World Cup in Brazil last summer.

However he is error-prone and has struggled to be a first-team regular at previous clubs.

He could not displace Arsenal flop Emiliano Viviano at Sampdoria last term and whilst at AS Monaco on loan he was behind Danijel Subasic in the pecking order.

Hopefully United will get to see the World Cup Romero in De Gea’s absence.
