Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino wants incoming deals completed soon

The Argentine also addressed rumours surrounding West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has reaffirmed the need to strengthen before the close of the window and revealed the club are hard at work to do so.

"I think you know we need to bring some players in. We work very hard for that. But always if we bring some player of the right profile, who can help our squad, it’s welcome," said Pochettino, in quotes published by Sky Sports.

When asked specifically about West Brom striker Saido Berahino - who has been linked with a Spurs switch for much of the summer - the Spurs boss added: "I never speak about rumours. If you check in the last few weeks, a lot of names are linked with us. But this is private - our targets - and I hope it can happen quick."

With Harry Kane the club’s only trusted striker and question marks over Spurs’ right flank, incomings are vital, and a host of names have so far been linked with a switch to White Hart Lane.

Reports from France yesterday, in L’Equipe, claimed Lyon forward Clinton N’Jie was close to a £10.5 million move, while today has seen Inter winger Zherdan Shaqiri linked, by Corriere Dello Sport.

Both players are exactly the calibre of talent Spurs should be targeting, and Berahino certainly falls into that category too.

If the Lilywhites can secure even two of the three before September 2nd, their attack goes from looking woefully short to adequately stocked, and Pochettino’s plea for urgency should see movement on the incoming front fairly soon.
