Derby County midfielder Tom Ince told the club’s official website that it’s an exciting time to be part of the project under manager Paul Clement.
The Rams get their Championship campaign underway this weekend with a game against Neil Lennon’s Bolton and it will be interesting to see whether the side can send out a message of intent to their main rivals.
“It’s certainly an exciting time for Derby County, the squad has been strengthened and we have to make sure, as players, we perform,” he told dcfc.co.uk.
“The squad is looking strong and there’s real competition for places. The Championship is a long slog but it’s exciting at the same time.”
Clement under pressure
The Derby manager is already under pressure for two main reasons.
Firstly, he’s been backed by the club in a big way because of the calibre of the players he’s brought into the football club.
That creates an expectation that the side is going to perform from the very first game, with questions likely to be raised if that’s not the case.
Secondly, Clement has never been in complete control of a club before, which puts him under pressure to show that he’s got what it takes to get the club into the top flight, before performing effectively at that level.
Benefit of the signings
One of the main benefits of the players that Clement has signed is the squad competition that Ince mentions.
It should prevent complacency from getting into the team, keeping all players on their toes and ensuring an efficient level of commitment and desire from the players every week.
